The new Eilish is probably her best and I love that it's sonically varied. It's not too much of a departure, but it doesn't sound too similar to former work. Is the disappointment that you're bored with her? However, this Willow track was full of little surprises, so, I'll be diving in there soon.

I've come around to it being more admirable than disappointment, and from first listen I thought it was her second-best album after "Happier Than Ever" (which I underrated when it came out).

The disappointment is two-fold: (1) my "Finneas isn't bringing a ton to the table" trutherism has only increased over time, and I'm really frustrated with his production on this album and (2) my expectations for what Billie Eilish is capable of are probably far too high and idiosyncratic, BUT I am more interested than ever with her working with different producers.

Hopefully Jeff Lynne can produce the next one! I can hear her pillowy voice propped up by those cloddy Lynne drums!

I did think of a lot of rock-oriented people I could imagine her working with. Like...a Nigel Godrich Billie Eilish album or something.

That would be good, too. And it's not that she needs to veer more towards rock as much as my love for unexpected pairings.

yeah, my thought is more about more sumptuous and less DAW-y production with someone who knows how to let a showy melody soar without annoying musical theater moves. (My other thought was, weirdly, Phil Elverum, like the Glyn Johns approach for the Beatles "Let It Be")

Is Dua's scarlet A for Albanian? Also, can confirm that bossa covers are an international phenomenon; guess the hotel set find unadulterated Coldplay a little too hardcore.

Oh, we got Coldplay, too..."Viva La Vida" at least has the right sonic template for middle-tier hotels

Yes, she gets an Albanian carve-out! (The "A" is narrowly "American" but really it's for "Anglophone" as in "western anglophone pop" -- one of many reasons this is a very rickety concept that may soon collapse....)
